CSCS Smart Check, the smart technology solutions providing employers with a quick, easy and secure way of ensuring everyone has the right card for their role on site, checked 1.7 million cards in April and is fast becoming the construction industry’s recognised card-checking platform.
Go Smart was the predominant platform for checking cards prior to CSCS Smart Check app launched in 2022. Go Smart was switched off on 31 March 2024 and CSCS Smart Check, as the replacement, is the only platform to read all 2.1 million cards from across the 38 CSCS Alliance schemes. The system is available via an API for existing systems, a mobile app for both Apple and Android devices, and through the CSCSSmartCheck.co.uk website.
CSCS Smart Check was initially launched as a mobile app in April 2022 but its API technology can now be built into existing site access and card checking systems, while its desktop version CSCSsmartcheck.co.uk was launched in March 2024.
Jay Parmar, Chief Executive at JIB, is also Chair of the CSCS Alliance, the collective of the 38 CSCS schemes providing certification for individuals across the whole of the built environment. Andy Reakes, JIB & ECS Director of Growth and Development is Chair of the CSCS Smart Check Delivery and Implementations groups that developed and launched the CSCS Smart Check app and technology solutions.
Andy Reakes explains: “CSCS Smart Check solutions provide options for all projects, large and small, to not only check that someone has a valid and in date CSCS or Alliance scheme card, but crucially that they are qualified and competent to do the job they have been engaged to do. This is a vital part of the Building Safety regime and one of the recommendations from Working Group 2: Installers to provide a simple and easy to use system to validate competency. CSCS Smart Check has shown that through collaboration, we can achieve amazing results including more than 2 million cards checked since launch.”
A full list of organisations with access to the CSCS Smart Check API is available via CSCS.uk.com/ITPartners.
The platform was also referenced in the Construction Leadership Council’s recently updated recommendations, with all CSCS-logoed cards required to be compatible with CSCS Smart Check without the need to manually enter data by 31 March 2025.
